Game Engine Mechanics Update
Why we built our own game engine and how is it going? Spoiler, it's tough.
Why???
We built our own game engine in C++! Jeez, it’s a bit of a crazy idea. But the amount of freedom we have garnered from this decision is paramount. The biggest reason? We want super meta, 4th-wall breaking, mind melting gameplay. We also want full control at the machine level, I mean we want to be able to take the time to optimize this game as much as possible (have you seen the price of RAM???) trust me, this game will be optimized to run on a potato if we have to.
How??
It started with just a small renderer. We of course use external libraries (I’m not gonna sit there and commune with the dark lord to figure out how all that works). But then we wanted a physics engine and, I being a physicist by day, took it as a challenge to build something that can really capture the vision of our wonderful artists. I won’t lie, I talked to my roommates a lot about their experiences. I studied the art of game engines, and honestly I have been sinking way more than swimming. But it will all be worth it when the story gets told.
